Cheryl Rondeau is a visual artist who works with both still and moving imagery to transform moments of transition and quotidien into the monumental with the intent of exposing influences and mechanics that mediate representation and identity. Her practice can mimic investigative scientific method, embrace the thievery of appropriation or inhabit the role of storyteller – in all cases, she collects, isolates and extracts specific gestures and moments constructing an intermix of the real and fabricated. Her visual arrangements are rhythmic compilations of repetition and mimicry creating images of ambivalence and agency.
Born in St. Catharines (Canada), Rondeau studied photography and video at the Ontario College of Art (Toronto) and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social/Cultural Anthropology from the University of Toronto. Her work has been included in exhibitions and festivals internationally including Festival international du film sur l’art (Montreal, Québec) Mediawave International Festival of Visual Arts (Gyor, Hungary), Scope Art Fair (New York City) and Museum of Modern Art (Bogota, Colombia). Rondeau is co-founder (with Mercedes Cueto and Darlene Naponse) of the Elements Collective. She is also Co-Editor and Photographer of Metro : Chronicles in the First Person, a publication committed to the investigation of cultural practice.

Cheryl Rondeau est une artiste visuelle œuvrant principalement dans les disciplines de la photographie et de l'installation vidéo. Son travail transmet de façon monumentale les moments de transition et du quotidien, dans le but d’exposer et de déconstruire les influences de la classe et du sexe sur la représentation et l’identité. Sa démarche peut simuler les méthodes d’investigation scientifique, embrasser l’appropriation ou incarner le rôle de la conteuse. Dans chaque cas, elle amasse, isole et extrait des gestes ou moments infimes et specifiques, et construit un mélange complexe avec le réel et l’invention. Ses compositions visuelles répétitives et mimétiques créent des images à la fois ambivalentes et agencées.
Née à St-Catherines (Canada), Cheryl Rondeau a étudié la photographie et l’art visuel au Collège des Beaux Arts de l’Ontario (Toronto) et détient un Baccalauréat en Anthropologie socioculturelle de l’Université de Toronto. Ses oeuvres sont apparues dans une variété de publications, d’expositions et festivals au niveau international tels que le Festival international du film sur l’art (Montreal, Québec), Mediawave International Festival of Visual Arts (Gyor, Hongrie), Scope Art Fair (New York City), le Museum of Modern Art (Bogota, Colombia). Rondeau est cofondatrice du collectif d’artistes « Elements ». Elle est aussi corédactrice et photographe pour Metro : Chronicles in the First Person, une revue consacrée à l'exploration des idées culturelles.
